Blog: Interpol and WADA warn of potentially deadly diet drug

6 May 2015

The international policing organisation INTERPOL has issued a global alert, or Orange Notice, about 2,4-dinitrophenal (DNP) after a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accredited laboratory received a sample of the drug following a seizure in Australia..

DNP is banned in sport and not approved for human use in any country. Invented in the 1930s, it was banned for human use after several deaths.

Recently a woman in the UK died and a French man was seriously ill after taking the substance.

WADA has worked closely with INTERPOL in issuing the alert about DNP. Read more about their work in their media release on the Orange Notice.
