The Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) today acknowledged the decision of Athletics Australia to impose a four-year ban on athlete Holly Bender for the presence of a prohibited substance and the metabolites of a prohibited substance, the use of a prohibited substance, and tampering or attempted tampering with any part of doping control.
Ms Bender returned an Adverse Analytical Finding from an in-competition doping control test at the Australian Athletics Championships on 2 April 2017.
Her sample was analysed at the Australian Sports Drug Testing Laboratory, part of the National Measurement Institute, which detected the presence of a prohibited substance and the metabolites of a prohibited substance, namely, exogenous Testosterone, Androsterone, Etiocholanolone and 5β-androstane-3α,17β-diol.
These substances are classified under category S1 of the World Anti-Doping Code Prohibited List 2017 as anabolic agents and are prohibited both in and out-of-competition.
It was alleged that on and/or before 2 April 2017, Ms Bender used a Prohibited Substance, namely Dehydroepiandrosterone, and that on and/or between 16 May 2018 and 24 May 2018, it is alleged she tampered or attempted to tamper with any part of doping control.
Athletics Australia imposed a four-year ban on Ms Bender commencing on 22 October 2017.
Ms Bender will be eligible to return to competition on 22 October 2021.
