ASADA education an innovation award winner
ASADA’s position as a leader in the development and use of new technologies in anti-doping education has been further strengthened by winning the Citizen-Centred Innovation Award at last night’s 2019 Public Sector Innovation Awards.
The award recognises ASADA’s world-leading approach to connecting with athletes using a Virtual Reality doping control experience and a Clean Sport App as a ‘one-stop shop’ for anti-doping education.
Our Clean Sport App helps athletes check if their supplements and medications are safe to take while our Virtual Reality helps athletes explore the doping control process in a safe, non-intimidating environment.
The use of these innovative technologies have led to a boom in anti-doping education with the number of people engaging with ASADA tripling in the past year.
ASADA prides itself on our education being forward thinking and innovative while playing an integral role in protecting the health Australian athletes regardless of their age or level of competition.
ASADA’s Director Education and Innovation, Alexis Cooper, believes the success of ASADA’s Virtual Reality can be attributed to its reach and flexibility.
“Even better is that other anti-doping agencies have seen the value in our Virtual Reality. In just eight months, our product has been featured at six international events, helping athletes around the world,” Alexis said.
Hosted by the Institute of Public Administration Australia, the Public Sector Innovation Awards were created to better recognise and celebrate the innovative work that occurs within the public service.
The Citizen-Centred Innovation Award is the latest in a number of awards ASADA’s education program has won since adopting an athlete-centric approach to its engagement with sports.
