2019 in-advance TUE criteria updated

4 January 2019

In January each year ASADA updates information about in-advance Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE). The updates include which sports are subject to in-advance TUEs and the criteria specific to a particular sport.

The criteria sets out which athletes in the sport are required to apply for an in-advance TUE before taking medications containing a substance or method listed on the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List. The exception to this rule is in emergency situations and hospital visits. So, if your sport is listed and you meet one, or more of the criteria you will need to apply for an in-advance TUE.

Athletes in those sports listed, but falling outside of the criteria, can apply for a planned retroactive TUE once they have been tested.

Check the medical evidence to common TUE applications to see what specific medical information you need to provide. This is important as insufficient medical evidence may delay the processing of your application.
