Substances: World Anti-Doping Code: List of prohibited substances and methods

Overview

The World Anti-Doping Code Prohibited List is set by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and is reviewed annually.

Most sports reference the Prohibited List in their anti-doping policies. The Prohibited List outlines classes of substances and methods that are prohibited in sport.

Changes to the Prohibited List usually come into effect on 1 January each calendar year.

Athletes and support persons should ensure they re-check the status of all medications and substances in January each calendar year. The Prohibited List may be subject to change during the year.

Access the World Anti-Doping Code 2008 Prohibited List (effective 01/01/2008 to 31/12/2008) from the WADA website.

The World Anti-Doping Code 2008 Prohibited List will come into effect on 1 January 2008. The 2008 Prohibited List is also available for download from the WADA website.

Note:

Some sports may not recognise the Code. Athletes are advised to check their sport's anti-doping policy as some sports may differ from the Code's Prohibited List. See below for more information on substances prohibited in particular sports.
