Substances: Clomiphene

Clomiphene is a substance that stimulates luteinising hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) production, which in turn stimulates the production of endogenous testosterone.

Clomiphene may be used by athletes to gain the benefits of increased testosterone production i.e. increased muscle growth and strength.

Due to its indirect ability to stimulate endogenous testosterone, athletes and bodybuilders may also use Clomiphene to counter the gynecomastia arising from the use of anabolic steroids.

Status in Sport

The use of clomiphene (an agent with anti-oestrogenic activity) is prohibited in males and females under the World Anti-Doping Code 2007 Prohibited List (in effect 01/01/07).
