Anti-Doping Rules: World - History

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) consulted with International Federations, National Anti-Doping Organisations and governments to develop the Code. Australia played an important role in its development.

The Code was endorsed by the international sporting community at the World Anti-Doping Conference held in Copenhagen in March 2003.

All major federations and 73 governments accepted the Code as the basis for the fight against doping.

The Code the first international agreement harmonising anti-doping rules across all sports and all nations.

ASADA and the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) conducted a national consultation process to ensure Australian sport was informed about, and able to provide input to, the Code's development.

ASADA and the ASC continue to work to ensure the Code is properly implemented in Australia.
