Keyboard shortcuts

The navigation elements at the head and foot of each page on this website have been set up with keyboard shortcuts. The shortcuts operate as follows:

• Alt-1 = Home
• Alt-2 = Search
• Alt-3 = Site map
• Alt-4 = Links
• Alt-5 = Contact us
• Alt-6 = Accessibility (this page)
• Alt-7 = Privacy

Note: Internet Explorer users need to hit Return to activate the shortcut.

Mac users: Use Control-1, Control-2 etc.

Please note that Netscape 4 does not support these shortcuts. They are fully implemented in Netscape 6 and later, and partially in Internet Explorer 5.5 .

Tabbing through page links

This site uses style-sheet driven menus as lists, and navigation using the Tab key thereby minimises the time taken to navigate them. Reverse tabbing through page links is possible using Shift-Tab.

Bypassing repetitive navigation links

On all pages on this site a bypass link is provided at the top of the page to take the user to the start of the main body text. This is the first link activated by pressing the Tab key when the page has loaded. It is evident to non-graphic browser users and appears in regular browsers via the Tab key.

Tabbing between fields in forms

All forms allow tabbing between consecutive fields.

Note: when using the Tab key to proceed through form fields, please use the arrow keys to select unchecked radio buttons, in conjunction with the Tab key.

New browser windows

In general, every link on this site opens in the existing browser window.

The exceptions are for special purpose business applications which will open in a new browser window. In these cases the window and cursor focus will follow on to the new window.

Multi-column tables

To improve accessibility for assisted technologies, the ASADA website makes minimal use of multi-column tabular information.

Enabling JavaScript

This site makes limited use of JavaScript. However, for some website features your browser should have JavaScript enabled in order to benefit from the enhanced functionality it provides. To experience the optimum value from this site, please enable JavaScript in your browser.

The main navigation menus work on all modern browsers but not on IE5 on a Macintosh running OS9. However, the default link displayed at the top of each menu will take you to a "landing page" which offers access to the sub-pages.

PDF file accessibility

People with disabilities who wish to access PDF format publications should either:

1. Submit the URI of the PDF document to an online converter provided by Adobe, which will return the text in HTML format readable by appropriate speech conversion software.
2. Download the PDF document and send it by email to Adobe for conversion and return in plain format.
3. [For older versions of Acrobat] Download an additional free plugin for Acrobat and Acrobat Reader, called Acrobat Access. Instructions on downloading and using this plugin are provided by Adobe.

We recommend that such users visit the Adobe Online conversion tools page and select the option that best suits their needs.
