Doping Control: Helpful hints for Athlete Whereabouts

Athletes who are required to provide Athlete Whereabouts Information may find the following advice useful when completing and submitting their information:

  • When completing your quarterly calendar and selecting your nominated location and time, choose locations that are unlikely to change. For example, if you know you are usually at home between 7:30am and 8:30am on Mondays then choose Home at 7:30am for all Mondays. By nominating more reliable and stable locations you will increase your chances of being successfully located for a sample.
  • Avoid nominating locations that are subject to last minute changes. If you know that your coach often changes your training venue at the last minute then it is advised that you do not nominate this training venue.
  • You must be available for the complete hour that you nominate as the ASADA Doping Control Officer (DCO) may attempt to locate you at any time during the hour.
  • You must supply sufficient detail to be easily located by the Doping Control Officer for sample collection. For example, if you are going to be at the Australian Institute of Sport, describe the particular training venue eg. AIS volleyball courts.
  • Any location you nominate must be accessible to Doping Control Officials.
  • If your plans change, update your Athlete Whereabouts Information immediately. By updating your information immediately you are less likely to forget about making the required change.
  • By using ASADA's Athlete Whereabouts Online System athletes in ASADA's Registered Testing Pool can select to receive SMS and email notifications and reminders from ASADA. For example, these notifications and reminders may assist you to remember due dates for submission of your Athlete Whereabouts Information; to be alerted when a third party changes Athlete Whereabouts Information or your National Sporting Organisation changes the details of a training camp or competition you may have used in your calendar.
