Doping Control: B-sample (urine sample collection)
Under government funded sample collection athletes may waive analysis of the B sample (urine sample only) as well as their right to a provide a written submission outlining the case.
This may allow the case to be heard by the relevant sports federation as quickly as possible.
In fee-for-service sample collection, the contract terms and conditions apply.
The process
- If an A sample tests positive, ASADA notifies the relevant athlete that they have returned a positive A sample and provides details of the arrangements for B sample testing.
- ASADA then provides the athlete with the opportunity to waive the B sample. ASADA then advises the athlete they can waive the B sample analysis and make a submission that outlines any information or evidence relating to the positive test result, within seven days of notification.
- ASADA will also advise the athlete that they may waive the right to give ASADA a written submission. The athlete must notify ASADA, in writing, if they want the B sample analysed within seven days of notification of the positive A sample.
- If an athlete waives the B sample analysis and their right to a written submission, they must inform ASADA in writing within seven days of notification of the positive A sample. This is so ASADA can complete its processes and refer the matter to the appropriate sports bodies.
- If an athlete chooses to have the B sample analysed, but waives the right to a written submission, the submission must be lodged with ASADA seven days after the athlete has been notified the result of the B sample.
