Doping control: Berlinger sample collection equipment

ASADA uses Berlinger sample collection equipment in its doping control program.
The Berlinger kit consists of two bottles with screw top lids that are transported in a styrofoam box. This box protects the bottles during transit.
The Berlinger is a secure single unit that does not need any outer security packaging.

Security

Berlinger sample collection equipment is tamper evident.  This means the bottle would show signs of being damaged or interfered with.  The laboratory must report any anomaly with the outer seal or the individual sealed bottles.
The security features of the Berlinger sample collection kit are:

  • tamper evident tape on the styrofoam box
  • security tape around each bottle
  • an irreversible screw-top lid.

The kits are individually identity coded and all aspects of the equipment have matching numbers.  The sealing mechanism on the bottle ensures any attempt to open the sample is evident to the laboratory.

Transportation to the laboratory

A yellow form, that does not identify the athlete who provided the sample, is the only paperwork that goes to the laboratory.  This form contains essential information for the laboratory.
ASADA uses a reliable courier service to provide a secure and documented path between pick-up and delivery to the laboratory.
