Doping Control: Australian Sports Drug Medical Advisory Committee (ASDMAC)

ASDMAC is an independent, specialist, medical advisory body that makes Australia's anti-doping program fairer for athletes.

ASDMAC operates under the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority Act 2006 and in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Agency’s International Standard for Therapeutic Use Exemptions.

ASDMAC is Australia’s primary Therapeutic Use Exemption Committee.

ASDMAC members are medical practitioners from specialist fields such as sports medicine, endocrinology and pharmacology. All members are experienced in the medical treatment and management of athletes.

ASDMAC provides Australian sport with:

  • Approval for athletes to use prohibited substances for legitimate therapeutic purposes where therapeutic approval is permitted by the relevant sports organisation and ASDMAC is appropriately recognised by the sports organisation.
  • Medical and scientific expertise to analytical laboratories in investigating adverse analytical findings.
  • Specialist scientific and medical advice to sports bodies on individual cases and other matters arising out of the provision of doping control services and safety checking services.
  • Reviewing National Sporting Organisation systems for prior approval and prior notification for the therapeutic use of asthma medications.
